Workforce Connections of Scioto County provides employment and career education programs in selected Scioto County school districts.

Community Action Organization of Scioto County has teamed up with the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce and Shawnee State University to plan the first Portsmouth Area Student Chamber and Leadership Council, which will accept applications every year for a class to take place in spring.

Classes will feature panels and guest speakers from an array of community cornerstones, including: the non-profit sector, workforce development, tourism, arts and culture, business, and more.

Students will receive college credit from Shawnee State University and be eligible for scholarship opportunities.

  • Adult mentoring for 12 months

  • Follow-up services for 12 months

  • Comprehensive guidance and counseling

Eligibility

To be potentially eligible for benefits, applicants must be:

- Legally able to work in the United States

- 14-24 years of age

- Registered for Selective Service, if required

- Within 300% of the poverty guidelines with an eligible minor in the household OR

- Not attending school and having one of the approved barriers as outlined in the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act
